Man remains in custody on suspicion of attempted rape

A man remains in custody after being detained in Rochdale.

Around 2.30pm on Sunday 14 October 2018, police were called to Oldham Road, at the junction with Ainsworth Street in Rochdale, to reports that a woman in her 60s had been sexually assaulted.

Officers attended and discovered a man had been detained by members of the public and a number of people were filming in the area.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in custody for questioning.

Officers from Rochdale CID are dealing with the investigation and any witnesses in the area are encouraged to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Paul Davies from GMP’s Rochdale Borough, said: “There were several people around and we know that some of them took video footage of the incident so we would like to hear from them in order to continue with our investigation.

“This has been a terrifying incident for the woman and we want to do our utmost to get to the bottom of what exactly happened but need the public’s help to do so.”
