Rochdale Foodbank receive generous donations

Date published: 30 October 2018

Rochdale Foodbank has benefited from a number of generous donations since September.

At the end of September, Iain and Margaret Wight, who started the Foodbank, were invited to a Freemasons Charity Giving Evening.

10 charities supported by the Masons, including the foodbank were given a scroll honouring the partnership, plus a donation of £250 from the Tudor Royal Arch.

Mauser UK also raised and donated £500 to Rochdale Foodbank whilst Castleton Bowling Club raised £100 at a Ladies Pairs Day.

Thanks to donations like these, and to those who donate on a monthly basis via the BT My Donate website, the foodbank is able to buy in any stocks which run seriously low and keep the fabric of Rochdale Foodbank in sound condition.

Throughout the month, the foodbank recieved donations totalling 5,148kg for distribution and received abundant donations from The Laughing Loaf bakery on The Walk, which has also donated masses of bread, rolls, pies, tarts and cakes.

Set up in 2012, the foodbank operates on a voucher system, provided by over 130 agencies in Rochdale who have identified people in crisis, who may struggle to buy food.

The voucher is honoured like a cheque, in exchange for three-days’ worth of goods. 342 vouchers were dealt with during September, which meant that 429 adults and 170 children in desperate need were helped.

Last year, more than 6,600 three-day emergency food supplies were given to people in crisis at Rochdale Foodbank, providing more than 2,200 children with provisions.
