New entry Ashworth Valley receives maximum level outstanding at Britain in Bloom awards

Date published: 31 October 2018

Ashworth Valley has received the top level of outstanding at this year’s RHS Britain in Bloom Awards in Southport on Wednesday (31 October).

Accepting the recognition for the North West It's Your Neighbourhood category were Rochdale in Bloom vice-chairman Paul Ellison and Zoe Hotchkiss.

The accolade is the first prestigious award for The Friends of Ashworth Valley.

A first-time entry for Ashworth Valley, judges were impressed so much they awarded the maximum level five to the area, which has a rich industrial heritage across Rochdale’s ancient woodlands.

Volunteers have worked hard this past year to keep Ashworth Valley clear and pristine, removing litter and fly tipping from the idyllic valley.

Zoe said: “To go in straight away with a level five is a massive achievement. Judges were so impressed with community spirit and the huge task of tackling fly-tipping. Our terrific planters throughout the valley were especially commented on, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the maximum level award home.”
