Rochdale shopping centre’s commemorative school project is launched

Date published: 06 November 2018

Rochdale can now enjoy the beautiful handiwork of local school children from across the town, after Rochdale Exchange’s commemorative poppy exhibition went live at the weekend.

The initiative, which was launched a month ago, invited Rochdale primary schools and its young pupils to produce their own poppy-themed creations to mark the 100th anniversary of WW1.

And thanks to the contribution of six schools in the town, Rochdale Exchange is delighted to launch this collaborative poppy exhibition, which will be on display for shoppers to enjoy until Monday 12 November.

Lorenzo O’Reilly, Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre manager, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response we have received from the primary schools in the area and the level enthusiasm they have all given to the poppy project.

“Everyone at the centre is so excited to see these impressive creations assembled for the community to enjoy. It will be a wonderful acknowledgement and fitting tribute to our fallen heroes.

“The poppy display will be in the centre from Saturday 3 November until  Monday 12 November so that our customers can really make the most of this symbol of remembrance at their leisure. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in making this happen, it’s been a very successful community collaboration and now Rochdale has the chance to appreciate it.”

The following schools involved in the poppy project are:

  • Sandbrook Primary
  • Moorhouse Primary
  • Broadfield Community Primary
  • Spotland Primary
  • Newhey Primary
  • Milnrow Parish COE Primary School

Rochdale Exchange’s commemorative poppy project will be on displayed in Unit 17 Market Way (adjacent to WH Smith) from Saturday 3 November until Monday 12 November.
