Whitworth High Class of 2018 honoured

Whitworth Community High School Best Overall GCSE Award winner Hannah Smallwood, who also won a Student Leadership Award

Students from the Class of 2018 at Whitworth Community High School had their hard work rewarded at a special presentation evening at The Riverside in Whitworth.

Headteacher Gill Middlemas thanked colleagues, families, guests and governors and those all-important former students for making it such a special evening.

The Mayor of Whitworth Councillor Madeline de Souza presented GCSE Certificates and also certificates for top effort and top progress in each subject.

Subject Awards for the top performance in each GCSE subject were introduced by the school’s faculties and were presented by either guest speaker Peter Boys or the Chair of Governors Christine Wright.

Mrs Middlemas said: “The evening was a true reflection of the outstanding relationships between staff and students which supports effective learning and helps drive up examination results.”

Highest Attendance Awards went to Will Wolfenden, Samantha Duffy and Jamie Middleton and Outstanding Contribution to the School over five years went to Grace Prime and Katie Bray.

Student Leadership Work Awards were presented to Sam Milton, Hannah Smallwood, Megan Whitworth and Tom Crabtree.

Hannah Smallwood was the worthy winner of the Best Overall GCSE Award for her outstanding achievements: four Grade 9s, English Language, English Literature, RE and Art and Richard Ronksley, Principal of Rochdale Sixth Form College, presented the award which the college kindly sponsored.

Nine students received awards for outstanding GCSE results across the ability range: Thomas Crabtree, Lewis Whittles, Declan Larkin, Georgina Bride, Tequila Skerritt, Jonathan Wadsworth, Jamie Middleton, Sophie Greenwood and Sheree Bork.

The overall Outstanding Effort Award went to Sophie Greenwood, and the Melissa Sutton/Chair of Governors Award for a student who exemplifies the resilience and motivation of our ex-student Melissa was presented to Jonathan Wadsworth.

A number of students, who successfully completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, received framed certificates and Lucy Farrell was the recipient of the school’s first ever Duke of Edinburgh leadership award.
