Have you seen a Harris hawk?

Date published: 19 March 2019

Animal Quackers, in Bacup, have had a disaster as their display bird, Harry the Harris hawk, has escaped with its jesses (jesses allow a falconer to keep control of a bird while it is on the glove or in training, and allow a bird to be secured on a perch outside its aviary) and leach (lead) still connected.

Terry Bork aka Farmer Terry said: “Due to the high winds he has been blown out of his comfort zone and been unable to find his way back.

“Sadly, when I was retraining Harry to be ready for the reopening at the end of March, he was spooked from his perch by our Springer spaniel and managed to snap his leash connecting him to his perch.

“Harry is currently flying with his leach still connected, he was side tracked in the strong winds and flew out of our vision.

“There have been many sightings, the last one being Shawforth, we believe him to be heading towards Rochdale.

“We are concerned that if this bird is not found and recovered in the next week it will suffer from starvation and die.

“We are very concerned that his leash could snag into a tree etc.

“We hope that someone spots him and for his safe return home back to Animal Quackers.

“If anyone spots him could you please contact us on 07957 446 150.

“Thank you.”

Animal Quackers, a petting farm, is now in its ninth year, in the last five years they have introduced Harry the Harris hawk who performs an amazing show.

Harry the male Harris hawk will fly between legs, through hula hoops and through a gap of four inches with two candidates stood face to face.
