Maths challenge, sport and Easter Bonnets for Beech House pupils

Date published: 26 April 2019

Students from Beech House School participated in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Regional Team Challenge at Manchester Grammar School in March.

There were 37 participating schools and the team from Beech House School consisted of two students from Year 8, Anique Ali and Ibrahim Khan, and two students from Year 9, Sophie Wilkinson and Jude Clarke.

The competition required the team to work together and also in pairs for the different rounds.

It was a full day programme and the students enjoyed doing a day of challenging maths at the Manchester Grammar School. The students were accompanied by Miss F Patel.

It was a great pleasure to watch the young mathematicians working together as a team and competing against mathematicians from the other schools.

Congratulations to the Beech House under 13s boys dodgeball team for receiving bronze medals at the Rochdale Schools Games.

The boys played against Holy Family, losing two out of their three matches.

They then played against Kingsway Park and won all three.

Their third game was against Hollingworth Academy where they won two matches out of three, and their final game was against Matthew Moss, where they lost one match, won one match and drew their final match.

Well done Zak Gorton-Rigg, Jude Anders, Dominic Dodd, Rico Bernales, Jawad Ali, Che Sullivan-Manders, and Charlie Egerton.

Fourteen students from Year 7 - 11 represented Beech House School in a football match against Hulme Hall.

The match was very tight in the first half which finished 0 – 0.

Beech House scored early in the second half from a superbly worked passing move, clinically finished off by Che Sullivan Manders.

After the first goal the game opened with both teams producing dangerous attacks.

Hulme Hall equalised from close range before Luke Ashworth scored a second for the home team.

Hulme hall scored another to level the scores going into the final 10 minutes.

Late goals from Luke Ashworth and Haris Kayani sealed the 4 – 2 win for Beech House School.

Team: Joshua Scotti, Che Sullivan Manders, Rico Bernales, Dominic Dodd, Jawad Ali, Charlie Egerton, Muaiz Wajid, Zain Ali, Jude Anders, Luke Ashworth, Hashim Mahmood, Matthew Hankinson, Daniel Rigg and Haris Kayani.

Beech House School held their annual Easter Bonnet competition. The designs were very good and it made the judges, Mrs Collier and Miss Mcgarvey’s, decisions very difficult. The Lower Prep winners were:

  • Nursery - Hussain Abbas
  • Reception - Muzaynah Raja
  • Key Stage 1 - Roman McInnes

In the Upper Prep 1st place went to Yumna Rana and 2nd place – Avalee Sullivan-Manders.
