Heavy traffic congestion in Rochdale after collision on M66 in Bury

UPDATE: The M66 is reopen as of 12.30pm Thursday 2 May.

Investigative work is currently being carried out on the M66 following a collision, with traffic affected all around Rochdale (10.00am Thursday 2 May).

Shortly after 2.00am this morning, police were called to reports that a car had collided with a body on the M66 Northbound in Bury.

Emergency services attended and sadly found the body of a woman.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the woman came to be in the carriageway.

The M66 Northbound is currently closed from junction 1 to 3 (10am) with heavy congestion around the Rochdale borough and Whitworth.

The M60 and M62 are also believed to be affected.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 147 of 02/05/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
