Diabetes UK and Tesco team up for free Type 2 diabetes risk assessments

Date published: 02 June 2019

Diabetes UK and Tesco pharmacies have teamed up to offer a free Type 2 diabetes risk assessment service in Rochdale.

There are 12.3 million people in the UK at increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, a serious condition that can lead to devastating complications.

About 90% of people with diabetes have Type 2, where the insulin your pancreas makes can’t work properly, or your pancreas can’t make enough insulin.

However, most of these people don’t know they’re at risk at all, or what they could be doing to reduce it.

Clare Howarth, Head of the North of England at Diabetes UK, said: “Getting the right advice and support is essential, but you might not know that you can get this advice while you’re doing your weekly shop.

“The expert pharmacy team there will help you understand your risk of Type 2 diabetes, and give you advice and support on what to do next.”

Finding out your risk of Type 2 diabetes could be the most important thing you do today.

A result from a diabetes screening test can be used to seek further medical advice from a doctor or medical professional. Once you understand why you’re at risk, you can take steps to reduce it.

The screening test is not intended as a diagnosis, and diabetes screening test are not always accurate.

If, at any stage of the test, you are nervous or unsure, contact your doctor for further advice.

Diabetes UK also offers a free online Know Your Risk tool at:
