Emergency services take to the dance floor to raise money for charity

Date published: 06 June 2019

Members of the emergency services will be putting their best foot forward for a ‘Strictly 999’ dance competition in aid of cancer research on 8 June.

Four members of staff from Rochdale ambulance station will be facing off against four police officers, four firefighters and four nurses at the contest in Batley to raise funds for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Sinead’s Cancer Care.

Strictly 999 promises a night of dance, music and fun, with a hot buffet supper, all in the name of charity.

The 16 emergency service staff members have been paired up with a dancer from Brighouse dance school KMAD, and have been training hard since February for the big day.

The couples have been assigned a dance at random, after choosing from a hat, and will be judged by four judges known on the dance circuit.

Taking part from the Rochdale ambulance station are Rebecca McNamara, Gary Eaton, Tom Cheetham and Jason Clegg.

Gary, Rochdale Operations Manager for North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS), said: “We’ve been going for lessons two or three times a week in Brighouse and have been training hard for the day.

“The ambulance team are hoping to win the team prize.”

Each couple will score points for their team, counting towards the final score for the winning team.

There will also be an individual winner, as voted for by the crowd.
