Doggy Dash does Woof Walkies

Date published: 13 June 2019

The eighth annual Doggy Dash at Hollingworth Lake on Sunday (9 June) raised £1,600 for Cancer Research UK.

The sponsored dog walk is a fun family event around Hollingworth Lake, where participants walk, jog or run for Cancer Research UK. Since its inception, the Doggy Dash has now become an official Cancer Research UK event across the UK, entitled Woof Walkies.

The event was won by Gemma Astin, 30, and her rescue dog, Simon.

Over 50 people and their beloved pooches turned out for the walk, with each family receiving a goody bag full of donated dog items, sweets, a drink and a rosette.

Event organiser Emma-leigh Quinn said: “A huge thank you to everybody who came, brought your beautiful doggies, spent your hard-earned money and helped us raise money for Cancer Research UK. All the money will be spent on research within Greater Manchester.

“A very special thanks to our sponsors and for some amazing donations from local companies.

“Thank you to all who helped on the day. We will be back next year for the 10th anniversary of Littleborough's Doggy Dash, and we are hoping to make it even bigger and better.”

This year the Hollingworth Lake dash, sponsored by Ad Manum Consultants and Hird & Partners vets, was held in loving memory of previous organiser Kath O’Donnell’s Yorkshire Terrier, Oscar, who lost his own battle with cancer in 2017.

Oscar, whom Kath and her husband, Andy, had had since he was a puppy, inspired the very first event ‘Doggy Dash For Life’ at Hollingworth Lake in 2010 with his love of walks.
