Sandbrook Community Primary School Eid Festival

Date published: 28 June 2019

Sandbrook Community Primary School held their first Eid Festival on Friday 7 June, bringing different cultures together to embrace new experiences.

There was face painting, a henna and nail pampering stall, the after-school dance club performed their dance at the Eid Festival and parents and staff donated items towards the Eid raffle.

Mrs Sheikh, the extended schools coordinator and organiser of the event said: “For a while myself and parents at Sandbrook have been keen for the school community to see how Eid is celebrated. We have been discussing it at our school coffee mornings. The school loved the idea of embracing and celebrating other cultures.

“The event was a great success and the feedback was amazing.

“We have had so much support from parents and the local community. I wanted this event to be different and a new experience for everyone.”

Mrs Sheikh organised for local businesses to do stalls such as toys, slush, candyfloss, waffles, and handmade sweet gifts. The stage was decorated and a professional caterer provided the food.

Local companies and businesses also helped raise money for the school by making donations. Hair by Sophie Claire, FlipOut Rochdale and Gordon Riggs Rochdale donated vouchers for the raffle, Cake box donated cupcakes and Worldwide Cash and Carry Rochdale donated cutlery, plates and more.

Mrs Sheikh said: “I want to thank Mrs Gordon, Mrs Mughal, Miss Saleem and all the staff and parents for their support on the day. Thank you to all the local businesses that ran a stall at the event and showed your support and to Castlemere Community Centre for the wonderful food.

“We at Sandbrook CPS would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and staff for attending the event and showing their support. The event was a great success and the feedback was amazing. It is wonderful to see different cultures come together and embrace new experiences. Well done to the children who performed the dance. We are overwhelmed with your support and positive comments, it means a lot to the school.”
