Stamford House Gingerbread Man Morning

Date published: 30 June 2019

Stamford House Rest Home held their monthly friendship morning with children from Mandi's Childminding and Patricia's Childminding joining the residents for a gingerbread man story, singing, dancing and then they all made their very own gingerbread men to enjoy as a snack.

Roxanne Sharp, Events and Activities Coordinator at Stamford House said: “All of the children and the residents, joined in with the baking and once the gingerbread men were ready, we had a drink and a snack.

“Dorothy, one of our residents took the lead on the singing, this time with classic nursery rhymes.

“She did 'The Grand Old Duke of York', 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe', 'When the Saints go Marching In' and 'Ring a Ring o' Roses'."

There was also a special gingerbread visitor to the friendship morning from Ridgeway Primary School in Sheffield.

He signed into the visitors’ book when he arrived, he tried out a comfy bed, he tried to steal some breakfast and finally he joined in with the children and residents.

Roxanne said: “I connected with a teacher that works in year 1 at Ridgeway Primary School to do a pen pal scheme for the residents, but, as its late on the school year, we decided it would be best to do it from September.

“As an interim the teacher suggested the gingerbread man, as an activity in class that we could join in with.

“At the end of the friendship morning the gingerbread man ran away on his next adventure. He was too quick for us to catch him.

“We look forward to our next friendship morning which will be celebrating National Friendship Day at the end of July.”
