Date published: 26 July 2019

An investigation has been launched after a mid-terraced property in Rochdale was set on fire.

Emergency services were called to the property on Colley Street at around 4am on Thursday 25 July after the home’s occupants discovered a fire near to an open window of the property.

They managed to escape the house uninjured.

Three people were seen running away from the scene and police are treating the incident as arson.

No descriptions of the individuals are currently available.

Detective Constable Lee Wells of GMP’s Rochdale District said: “Fortunately the family noticed the fire and quickly managed to escape the house unharmed.

“However, given extent of the fire damage, it was only luck that has prevented any serious injury.

“Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time or has any information should contact police immediately.”

Details can be reported to police by calling 0161 856 8437 quoting incident number 251 of 25/07/19.
