Date published: 31 July 2019

The Nigeria Community Association hosted a Holiday Jamboree Family Fun Day in Broadfield Park on Saturday 20 July.

Free activities on the day included a bouncy castle, table tennis, face painting, a children’s talent show, and entertainment was provided by DJ Kolex. Free food and drinks were also on hand for all to enjoy, with a BBQ burning on the hot day.

Those in attendance included the Mayor of Rochdale Billy Sheerin, Tony Lloyd MP, Councillor Sultan Alli, Councillor Mohammed Zaman, Link4Life, Greater Manchester Police, Energy Works, RCCG church members and people of the wider community who supported the event.

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Billy Sheerin, commented: “It was a fantastic event for children, families and friends with a carnival-like atmosphere. I even had a go at the table tennis but failed miserably.

“Lots of exciting games and activities were available and I thank the Nigeria Community Association for bringing the community together at such a wonderful, family friendly event.”

Tony Lloyd, MP for Rochdale, said: "I thought this was a great event organised by Mary from the Nigeria Community Association. I'm really pleased that they decided to host a Jamboree and bring people together, as that is what a Jamboree is all about: mixing with others, enjoying their company and having a fun time.

"Broadfield Park really is a beautiful park and in the summer, when it warms up, this is exactly what we should be using our parks for.

"Thank you to Mary and all the volunteers who made this event a success. We all enjoyed ourselves."

Founder of the Nigeria Community Association, Mary Adekugbe, said: “We thank everyone who attended this event. It was a lovely day surrounded with amazing people.

“Hopefully this will turn out to be a recurring event with many more stalls added each time.

“Thank you so much to everyone who came down to support us and take part, it was great to have you all.

“A massive thank you also goes to all our utterly fabulous volunteers! We really couldn't do it without you.”

The Holiday Jamboree was sponsored by Rochdale Borough Council, Kia Motors and Beejs Venture.

Mary added: “To top it all, a big thank you to our sponsors. Without you this event wouldn't have been a success.”
