St Luke’s scout and guide hut in Heywood
The St Luke’s scout and guide hut in Heywood has undergone extensive renovation after being in desperate need of repair.
Thanks to the support of the local community over the last few years, the Starkey Street hut has now been treated to a makeover.
Approximately £12,000 has been raised through fundraising and grant applications to allow the exterior of the 38-year-old building to be updated.
Andrew Weekes, St Luke's Heywood, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported St Luke’s Scouts and Guides over the past few years in fundraising, grant applications and sending your kids to the groups - this summer we’ve been able to renovate the exterior of our building to secure our long-term future.
“A huge thank you to James Cullen of Cullen Building Services for the work.”
The inside of the hut will next be renovated, followed by new outdoor signs, a larger secure storage container and gardening works. New doors will be arriving soon to complete the structure work.
Andrew added: “We are hoping to work with Prince's Trust and Heywood in Bloom to paint the interior and provide a small garden on the front patch of grass. Any additional money we can raise would be used to purchase another storage container, improve our facilities and improve the general appearance of the building inside and out.”
