PLP Construction sponsors St Luke’s sports kit

St Luke's pupils show off their new kit, sponsored by PLP

Heywood company PLP Construction have sponsored a new sports kit for children at St Luke’s CE Primary School, after building an extension for the school earlier this year.

The children have already attended various sporting competitions this half term and are very proud to wear their new gear.

During the summer term and holidays, PLP built a seven-classroom extension to accommodate growth as the school becomes a two-form entry primary school.

The company has engaged with the school, and, during the building period, company director Joanne James, supported the school with various social enterprises. The children created a time capsule that has been buried under the new build, Year Six have had career talks and PLP also arranged for the National Federation of Builders to work with children in Key Stage Two.

Ms James said: “As a company we are always keen to get involved in the communities we work in, and PLP has really enjoyed engaging with the pupils and teachers at St Luke’s Primary School.

“Whilst we’ve been on site building the extension, we have tried to involve the staff and children as much as possible by putting together a programme of activities including site visits throughout the build process, so the staff and children could see the new building develop.

“We’re hoping to have inspired some future construction workers when we carried out a careers event with Year Six.  We’re also very proud to sponsor the school football team and hope they have a winning season.

“This term PLP invited the National Federation of Builders to join us for the day at St Luke’s – the NFB brought along their virtual reality headset and let the children take a virtual tour of a James Bond-style hotel to show them how 3D-modelling is now being used in construction. 

“During the day, the children also put their building and team-working skills to the test by creating some amazing tetrahedron models.

“Both PLP and the NFB were very impressed by the models the children created and how well they worked together.”
