Area: Rochdale
Reason: to reset a gas manhole cover lid in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3pm from Tuesday 24 September - Thursday 21 November 2019, or until the work is completed, whichever comes sooner.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Newgate, from its junction with St Mary's Gate to a point 10 metres in an easterly direction, in an easterly direction only.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is St Mary's Gate, The Esplanade and Newgate.

Reason: to repair a water main.

Expected start and finish: 9am, Wednesday 9 October 2019 for a maximum of 21 days, until Wednesday 30 October 2019. Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Cecil Street, from a point 10 metres west of its junction with Pomona Street to a point 10 metres east of its junction with Pomona Street.
  • Temporary suspension of one way working on Pomona Street and Pullman Street.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Penrith Street, Deeplish Road and Pullman Street.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Ashmount Drive, Mizzy Road and Belmont Way.

Expected start and finish: 5am-10am, Sunday 3 November 2019.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Milnrow Road eastbound, between the junction of Drake Street and Oldham Road in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be Drake Street, Manchester Road, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Road and Milnrow Road.

Expected start and finish: 10.45am-2.15pm, Saturday 9 November 2019.

  • Oldham Road, at its junction with Crawford Street and Durham Street.
  • Durham Street, from its junction with Oldham Road to its junction with Hare Street.
  • Hare Street, from its junction with Durham Street to its junction with Milkstone Road.
  • Milkstone Road, from its junction with Hare Street to its junction with Deeplish Road.
  • Deeplish Road, for its entire length.
  • Ashfield Road, from its junction with Deeplish Road to its junction with Boundary Street.
  • Boundary Street, for its entire length.
  • Tweedale Street, from its junction with Boundary Street to its junction with Castlemere Street.
  • Castlemere Street, for its entire length.
  • Drake Street, from its junction with Castlemere Street to its junction with Church Stile.

Alternative route: the closure of the above streets will be a rolling road closure. Due to the nature and duration of this event, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Expected start and finish:

  • The prohibition of vehicles on Yorkshire Street, South Parade, Packer Street, The Esplanade, Vicar's Gate and Newgate will be operative from 10am-12.30pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of vehicles on the Town Hall Square (rear of the town hall) will be operative from 8am-12.30pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of vehicles on the Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway and the Town Hall Square (side of the town hall) will be operative from 8am-6pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of waiting on Yorkshire Street, The Esplanade, the Town Hall Square (rear of the town hall), Vicar's Gate and Newgate will be operative from 12.01am-12.30pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of waiting on the Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area and the Town Hall Square (side of the town hall) will be operative from 12.01am-6pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of:

  • Yorkshire Street, from its junction with John Street to its junction with South Parade.
  • South Parade, from its junction with Drake Street to its junction with The Esplanade and Newgate.
  • The Esplanade, from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate.
  • The Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway.
  • The Town Hall Square (both the side and rear of the town hall) for its entirety.
  • Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade to its junction with Fleece Street.
  • Vicar's Gate, for its entire length.
  • Newgate, from its junction with The Esplanade, for a distance of 100 metres in a north-westerly direction.

Temporary prohibition of waiting along:

  • Yorkshire Street, both sides of its junction with John Street to its junction with South Parade.
  • The Esplanade, both sides, from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate.
  • The Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway.
  • The Town Hall Square (both the side and rear of the town hall) for its entirety.
  • Vicar's Gate, for its entire length.
  • Newgate, the north side of its junction with The Esplanade and South Parade, for a distance of 100 metres in a north-westerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles on The Esplanade is Newgate, St Mary's Gate and The Esplanade. Due to the nature and duration of the event, it is not necessary for any other alternative routes to be in place.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of Woodhouse Lane, from its junction with Shawfield Lane for a distance of 45 metres in a north-westerly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be Shawfield Lane, Edenfield Road and Woodhouse Lane.

Reason: to repair a gully in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Monday 11 November - 4.30pm, Wednesday 13 November 2019.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Belfield Lane, from the junction of Belfield Road to the junction of Milnrow Road.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be Entwisle Road, Molesworth Street and Milnrow Road.

Reason: to install an electric main in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am-5pm, Saturday 16 November - Sunday 17 November 2019 and 8am-5pm, Saturday 23 November - Sunday 24 November 2019.
Restriction and location: prohibiting vehicles from turning right from St Mary's Gate onto Newgate.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be St Mary's Gate, Spotland Road, Holland Street, College Road and Newgate.

Reason: to hold the 2019 Rochdale Christmas Lights Switch On event.

Expected start and finish:

  • The prohibition of vehicles on The Esplanade, from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate will be operative from 4pm-6pm, Sunday 24 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of waiting on The Esplanade, both sides from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate will be operative from 12noon-6pm, Sunday 24 November 2019.
  • The prohibition of vehicles on the Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway will be operative from 6am-6pm, Sunday 24 November 2019.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of:

  • The Esplanade, from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate.
  • The Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway.

Temporary prohibition of waiting along:

  • The Esplanade, both side from its junction with South Parade and Newgate to its junction with Vicar's Gate.
  • The Esplanade, the entire enclosed car parking area south of the main carriageway.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles using The Esplanade is Newgate, St Mary's Gate and The Esplanade.


Area: Middleton
Reason: to allow access to a housing development site.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 16 July 2018 - 6pm, Wednesday 15 January 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary cycle lane closure:

  • On the east side of Hollin Lane, from a point 125 metres north of its junction with Hazelhurst Drive for a distance of 56 metres in a northerly direction.
  • From a point 245 metres north of its junction with Hazelhurst Drive for a distance of 52 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative route: cyclists will still be able to travel down these road using the main areas of the road, not the cycle lanes.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to construct the new railway station access.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Wednesday 7 August 2019 - Tuesday 4 February 2020.
Restriction and location:

  • Prohibition of pedestrians from proceeding along the southerly footway of Oldham Road, from a point 90 metres west of its junction with Mills Hill Road for a distance of 80 metres in a westerly direction.
  • Prohibition of waiting on the northerly side of Oldham Road, from a point 30 metres west of its junction with Mills Hill Road for a distance of 160 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Reason: to hold the Middleton Remembrance Sunday Parade.

Expected start and finish: 10am-12noon, Sunday 10 November 2019.
Restriction and location: temporary closure to vehicles of the following:

  • Park Road, for its entire length.
  • Long Street, from its junction with the Assheton Way, Eastway, Long Street and Market Street roundabout to its junction with Manchester New Road.
  • Manchester New Road, from its junction with Long Street to its junction with the Middleton Way and Oldham roundabout.
  • Middleton Way and Oldham roundabout, for its entire circumference.
  • Middleton Way, both sides, for its entire length.
  • Manchester Old Road and Middleton Way roundabout, for its entire circumference.
  • Manchester Old Road, from the Manchester Old Road and Middleton Way roundabout to the Garden of Remembrance.

Alternative route: due to the nature and duration of the event, it isn't necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to work on a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Monday 11 March 2019 - 6pm, Monday 4 November 2019.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Claybank Street from a point 32 metres east of its junction with Cedar Avenue for a distance of 105 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Cedar Avenue and Furness Avenue.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to repair the pedestrian bridge and allow the safe passage of pedestrians only.

Expected start and finish: 12.01am, Thursday 6 June 2019 - 11.59pm, Monday 16 March 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Schofield Street, from its junction with Cowburn Street for a distance of 32 metres in a south-easterly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Walton Street, Manchester Road, Manchester Street, Hardfield Street and Schofield Street.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am-5pm each day from Saturday 14 September 2019 - Monday 4 November 2019 as required. Restriction and location: temporary closure of:

  • Hardfield Street for its entire length.
  • Churchill Close for its entire length.

Alternative route: alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

  • The closure to vehicles will be operative from 10am-12.30pm, Sunday 10 November 2019.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of:

  • Tower Street, from its junction with School Street to its junction with Brunswick Street.
  • St James Street, for its entire length.
  • Bridge Street, from its junction with St James Street to its junction with Market Street.

  • Tower Street, from its junction with School Street to its junction with Brunswick Street.

  • Garden Street, from a point 1 metre north of Bridge Street to its junction with Bridge Street.

Work being undertaken: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Pennines area.
Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.

Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925.

The helpdesk hours are: Monday-Friday, 8am - 7.30pm & Saturday, 8am - 12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of unnamed footpath from Bramhall Close to Elizabethan Way, from Elizabethan Way for a distance of 46 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists will be clearly signed when the closure is in place.

  • Wardle Road, from its junction with Ramsden Road to its junction with Kings Grove.

Alternative routes:

  • The closure of Ramsden Road will be a rolling closure from Wardle Fold to Birch Road. Therefore, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.
  • The alternative route for the closure of Wardle Road is Ramsedn Road, Birch Road and Halifax Road.
