RBH teams up with the Amaani Initiative to turn Kirkholt greener

A new addition to the Strand Hub in Kirkholt is settling in nicely, after Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) accepted the gift of an olive tree from the Amaani Initiative as a symbol of their commitment to tackling climate change.

As well as accepting the olive tree gift, RBH employees, Green Team members, and local volunteers are taking part in a community tree-planting day, with up to 375 new trees set to be planted in the Kirkholt area on 27 November.

These trees form part of a wider tree-planting effort, including a pledge from Rochdale Council of Mosques to buy and gift up to 100 trees to local mosques, churches and members of the community.

Asrar Ul-Haq, who runs the Amaani Initiative and serves as a non-executive director of RBH, said: "The Amaani Initiative is a family-run project which aims to encourage the community to partake in activities to reduce carbon emissions, combat climate change, and enhance the beauty of the local environment.

"We work with local mosques, churches, and community organisations across the borough of Rochdale to encourage the planting of shrubs, trees, and plants.

"I'm delighted that RBH has accepted our challenge and I am looking forward to seeing all the new trees in Kirkholt thrive when they are planted later this month."
