Milnrow paedophile sentenced to seven years in prison

Date published: 17 February 2020

A paedophile from Milnrow has been sentenced to seven years in prison for child sex offences.

Samirul Choudhury, 30, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday (17 February) to seven years and two months in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

In 2017, as part of an investigation into drug dealing, police stopped a vehicle being driven by Choudhury.

A kilo of class A drugs was seized and Choudhury was arrested. In December 2018, he was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Keys in Choudhury’s possession at the time were used to open a locked metal cabinet in his bedroom.

Inside the locked metal cabinet, officers found 10 child-sized bras and a USB stick. On the USB stick and Choudhury’s mobile phone, officers found indecent images of girls thought to be as young as seven as well as videos of a voyeuristic nature filmed using a camera cable through a hole in a wall in a bathroom.

Specialist officers identified Choudhury’s fingerprint on a still of a hand taken from one of the high definition videos downloaded from his phone.

Choudhury was questioned in prison and subsequently charged. On the first day of his trial, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13, sexual assault of a child under 13 and voyeurism.

Upon release, Choudhury will be subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will prohibit him from having unsupervised contact with children under 16-years-old and deleting his browser history. It will also require him to allow police to inspect any electronic devices capable of accessing the internet.

Detective Constable Adam Cronshaw, of GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said: “Choudhury is not only a convicted drug dealer but now a convicted paedophile too.

“The sentence imposed by the court today highlights the justice system’s commitment to protecting children from predatory and shameful behaviour.

“Sexual offences often have a life-long impact on victims. We are 100 per cent committed to bringing those responsible for these shocking crimes to justice.”

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Every child deserves a happy and safe childhood, and these horrific offences can leave victims with emotional and mental scars which could affect them for the rest of their lives.

“We hope today’s sentencing helps those affected in their recovery process, and it is vital they get all the support they need to move forward with their lives.”
