NCS places available in Rochdale for summer fun

There are still places available in Rochdale for young people aged 16 or 17 to take part in this year’s National Citizen Service (NCS) summer programme.

The 3-4 week programme, which runs from June to August 2020 will be welcoming 13,000 young people across the North West to take part and gain essential employability skills for their future.

Teenagers spend four weeks working together, taking part in various activities - rock-climbing, kayaking, abseiling, volunteering in their communities, learning to cook, public speaking, campaigning and pitching their ideas to a team of professional business people. Through these experiences they build their confidence and skills, and forge new, strong friendships with people from different backgrounds.

The young people taking part in NCS, will have the opportunity to be at the frontline of Greater Manchester’s economic boom, learning more about the world of work through a series of visits to businesses and organisations across their local area. Teams of 16 young people will spend a morning touring a business and meeting with their employees, discovering what the company does and how to get into their industry.

 

 

The NCS programme prepares young people for what comes next by developing the life and employability skills and networks needed to aim higher and increase their social mobility. Whatever their next step, NCS equips each young person to take control of their future and their employability.

The Growth Company has established a network of Pledge Partners - businesses and organisations across Greater Manchester and the North West who are committed to helping broaden the range of experiences on offer to the region’s young people. A number of these partners will be opening their doors for workplace visits across the summer, including the Transpennine STEM Ambassador Hub at the Science Museum Group, and the engineering consultancy company Atkins. Spending time in a STEM workplace will help young people to understand how the skills they develop during NCS will be valued by future employers and apprenticeship providers.

As a training provider with 30 years’ experience, the Growth Company can provide NCS graduates with access to apprenticeships across a wide variety of sectors, and ultimately, jobs in and around Greater Manchester.
