Local care worker died after becoming infected with Covid-19

Date published: 08 April 2020

A local care worker has died after becoming infected with coronavirus Covid-19.

Carol Jamabo, 56, sadly died on Wednesday 1 April after becoming infected with the virus.

Carol worked in Rochdale’s enhanced night service, providing dedicated care and support for elderly and vulnerable residents across the borough.

The mother-of-two suddenly became unwell approximately two weeks ago when she was at her home with her son, before being rushed to hospital.

Unfortunately, Carol’s condition rapidly deteriorated. She was transferred to the intensive care unit, but sadly died.

A key worker for over 25 years, Carol had been employed in various government organisations such as HM prison service and NHS trust Guys and St Thomas as an administrator in sexual health services.

Most recently, she worked as a carer in the community for Cherish Elderly Care after moving from the South East to the Manchester area to be closer to her two children.

Her nephew, Dakuro Fiberesima, has launched a fundraiser for funeral costs, and to support his cousins. Over £10,000 has been raised so far.

Writing on the page, he said: “Carol, or CJ as loved ones and close friends fondly referred to her as, was a fun-loving person with many friends and will be remembered for her uplifting, joyful and enthusing personality. Words cannot describe the damaging and destructive impact her passing will have to her work colleagues, friends, family and most painfully, her two children.

“With the goodness of your heart, please kindly donate what you can to support her family and two children to raise the necessary funds for the funeral costs in this painfully sad and upsetting time. May God bless you and help us all through this challenging period.”

Rochdale Borough Council’s cabinet member for adult care has also paid tribute to Carol.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed said: “This is such tragic news and my condolences go to Carol’s family, friends and colleagues.

“Carol was a popular and hard-working member of the enhanced night service team, much loved and valued by everyone she helped, supported and cared for.

“Our thoughts are with Carol’s loved ones at this sad time.”
