Man charged with assault after police officer bitten

A man has appeared at court in connection with an assault on two police officers in Rochdale.

Christopher Hill, 29, of no fixed abode, has appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court earlier today (Saturday 11 April 2020) charged with attempted section 18 assault (attempted to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm), assault of an emergency service worker and criminal damage.

He was remanded to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on Thursday 7 May 2020.

Whilst responding to an incident on Thursday 9 April 2020 on Drake Street in Rochdale, two officers were punched. One of those officers - a 21-year-old police constable - was then seriously bitten and had to attend hospital, before being discharged to recover at home.
