'Running Manc' Daniel Kristof to run 5k every day for a whole year for charity

Date published: 27 April 2020

A hotel manager from Newhey is underway with a massive challenge: to run 5k each day for a whole year in aid of charity.

Daniel Kristof, 25, is currently several weeks into the challenge, which he hopes will raise £5,000 for The Team Hill Charitable Trust & Destination Florida Children’s Charity.

Daniel has been running around Rochdale, Newhey, Shaw, Saddleworth, and Leeds, where he continues to work throughout the pandemic.

He said: “In early February the statement ‘Be Kind’ trended throughout various social media platforms and media outlets – I found this time extremely powerful and wanted to do something that stood out, pushing myself out of my comfort zone and putting myself in the heart of local charity initiatives.”

Under the moniker, ‘The Running Manc’, Daniel will be posting his journey daily via social media, which began on 1 April 2020:

Explaining his choice of charities, Daniel said: “Team Hill raises money for local initiatives and causes, such as giving comfort packs to Royal Oldham Hospital, whilst Destination Florida takes 70 people every two years to Disney, Universal Studios, shopping etc., who wouldn’t necessarily be able to go on holiday.”

Daniel says he first became aware of the charity after Destination Florida contacted a family friend, whose daughter was injured in an accident, whilst he knew Steve Hill MBE, a teacher and ultramarathon runner who set up the Team Hill Charitable Trust.

He added: “It’s been a lot more challenging than I thought, and I didn’t factor in recovery days.”

“I would like to incorporate multiple fundraising ideas within the page, such as charity raffles, group runs when we can, and sponsored coffee mornings within my hotel - the list goes on…

“With my target of £5,000, raising the money won’t be easy, therefore, involving as many people and getting people on board with my challenge, I think it will be do-able! All monies raised at the end of the challenge will be distributed evenly amongst both charities.

“I want to show people that it’s possible to do anything if you put your mind to it.

“I’m hardly athletic and have no previous experience of running for this period of time, therefore I am going to take every day as it comes and really cherish every moment. It will be difficult, mentally and physically, although the charities are at the forefront of my challenge and continue to motivate me daily.”
