Free online workshops for parents to understand children’s behaviour

Date published: 06 May 2020

Clinical psychologists from local social enterprise Beyond Psychology are holding free online workshops for parents to help them understand their children’s emotions and behaviour.

The Helping Parents Understand Behaviour in Children with Complex Experiences two-part workshop will take place on 11 May and 1 June from 10am to 11.30am, funded by the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group.

These workshops focus specifically on the needs of children who display social difficulties, attention & concentration difficulties and/ or attachment difficulties. Beyond will explore some practical skills and approaches, to enable you to help your child manage their emotions and behaviour.

Parents will be told about activities to practice at home with your child and handouts will be provided. Session will also be used to talk about how these activities helped and/or, iron out any difficulties you might have had putting them into place, as well as introducing new strategies/activities.

This workshop is aimed at parents with children aged between 5 - 11.

A second series of workshops around anxiety has already been fully booked.

A not-for-profit social enterprise, Beyond was set up and founded by chartered clinical psychologists, Dr Kirsty Hughes and Dr Louise Mansell in March 2017.

Funded by schools, social care, the NHS and parents, the Beyond Psychology service has worked in the public sector with the NHS Child and adolescent mental health services, schools and children’s services as well as working alongside occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, speech and language therapists, and mental health nurses.
