Several farm animals have died following a fire in Littleborough on Monday (1 June).

Both Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Fire Service attended the incident, believed to be at Slack Farm on Higher Calderbrook Road.

Whilst Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were able to rescue a large number of animals, three horses and two pigs sadly died in the fire.

The two fire services attended the incident at 1.20pm, deploying pumps from Littleborough, Rochdale, Hollins and Chadderton.

Speaking on Monday evening, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "West Yorkshire Fire Service have completed an outer survey of the incident and confirmed that the fire has not spread beyond the property affected.

"The incident caused a lot of smoke and we advised members of the public in the vicinity to close their windows and doors and stay away from the area."
