Man arrested on suspicion of raping a child in Heywood

A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a child in Heywood on Monday (8 June).

The 24-year-old remains in custody for questioning, whilst specialist officers are supporting the girl and her family.

Police were called to reports that a child had been raped near to Balmoral Drive in the Darnhill area of Heywood on Monday evening, at around 7.45pm.

The girl's age has not been released.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 7.45pm yesterday (Monday 8 June 2020), police were called to reports that a child had been raped near to Balmoral Drive in Heywood. 

“A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody for questioning. 

“A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing.”
