Anita Lewis, who runs the Half Acre House residential care home in Rochdale, has appeared on an episode of the Leaders Council’s podcast alongside its chair, Lord Blunkett.
The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a network of the most influential figures from across the country, which celebrates the hard work and achievements of Great British leaders, all the while aiming to inspire the next generation.
Located on Roch Valley Way, Half Acre House was founded by Anita and her husband Rod in 1989, in response to ‘disappointing facilities’ at the time. Mr and Mrs Lewis researched care provision, practice and standards whilst searching for a suitable solution for Anita’s elderly mother.
Mrs Lewis, 78, was invited to feature on the podcast, which also included an interview with Lord Blunkett, who is also co-chair of the Parliamentary Review.
Host Matthew O’Neill asked both guests a series of questions about leadership and the role it has played in their careers to date.
Mrs Lewis said: “It was a pleasure to be invited and respected enough to represent ideas from the care home industry.
“I hope my views help to create a better image for care homes, adding some positivity for the many dedicated leaders who relentlessly provide excellent care for the elderly, bringing forward innovative ideas, within safe environments.”
The podcast interview follows a 2019 invite by Lord Pickles for Half Acre House to be part of the 2020 Parliamentary Review group to represent the care industry, highlighting best practice.
