Reuse Littleborough opens children's shop Second Time Around

Date published: 07 December 2020

Community group Reuse Littleborough has opened a new shop on Hare Hill Road, which specialises in pre-loved clothing and items for parents and babies.

Formed as an offshoot of Reuse Littleborough, which aims to keep unwanted items out of landfill, Second Time Around will stock baby clothes, toys, bedding, prams, sterilisation units and more.

The venture comes on the back of the large quantities of donations received, the likes of which have previously been sent to baby homes in Africa, filling three containers.

Group founder Michael Bamford said: “It’s great when we can fill containers but we otherwise need to store the donations. We get so many as babies grow so fast so we started looking for another outlet.

“Hopefully this will be a one-stop shop for anyone having a baby.”

The eco-friendly community group was launched after Michael noticed a discrepancy between the waste we have in our country and those in need in poorer countries.

Founded in 2015 and now based in the centre of Littleborough, Reuse Littleborough started with an online post, asking for donations of unwanted baby items to send to the Forever Angels Baby Home in Tanzania.

After receiving the keys at the end of October, Second Time Around opened after national lockdown ended on Wednesday 2 December with new signage from Graffic Detail.

The Reuse Littleborough Hub, located just over the road, has also had a facelift with a new audio section for televisions, CD players and DVD players, plus a media section for books, CDs and DVDs.

Reuse Littleborough still urgently needs a van and driver, strong volunteers and space for larger donations, such as furniture.

Second Time Around will be open from 9am to 4pm (Tuesday - Friday) and between 10am and 3pm on Saturdays.

Due to the shop size, the number of people allowed inside will be limited, face masks will be mandatory and hand sanitiser will be available at the door.
