Wardle Sports Council running 100km to buy iPads for care homes

Date published: 22 December 2020

Wardle Academy Sports Council is raising money for local care homes to buy iPads, so residents can easily keep in touch with their families.

The ten members of the council - all year nine students at Wardle Academy - have decided to run 100km in total, with each running just over 10km.

During the pandemic, the council thought of ways they could help their local community; one of the councillors has a grandma at Waterside Lodge Care Home in Todmorden where they only had one iPad, making it difficult for residents to stay in touch with family during a time when visitors have not been allowed.

The group are aiming to buy six iPads for six different care homes and, so far, have exceeded their target of £1,000 by 213% - having now raised £2,130.

The council has set up a JustGiving page at: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/wardlesportscouncil-100kmchallenge
