Heywood man arrested in Newton-le-Willows for possessing a knife

A man from Heywood has been arrested for possessing a knife in public, after police arrested five people during a stop search in Newton-le-Willows on 3 January.

The 29-year-old Heywood man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

Of the four others arrested, three were from Rochdale.

Two women, aged 27 and 28, and a man, 25, all from Rochdale were also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A fifth person, a 25 year-old man of no fixed abode, was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Merseyside Police has confirmed that all have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
