Healey Care marking 25 years of service with a charity walk during Learning Disability Week

Date published: 19 June 2021

Healey Care Ltd – a Whitworth company providing a range of support services for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism – will mark Learning Disability Week with a charity walk this year.

On Friday 25 June approximately 52 participants, including Healey Care staff, service users, and children from Tor View school in Rossendale, will set off from Rochdale Canal, a starting point which boasts level, accessible tracks for people of all abilities.

Offering routes from two to 10 miles means that everyone can enjoy the opportunity of walking for charity and being able to give to others – in this case, the Friends of Tor View (FoTV).

FoTV is a registered charity branched from Tor View Specialist Learning Community in Haslingden. Valuing ‘equal opportunities for all’, the charity organises a variety of social and fundraising events throughout the year for the school.

Money raised contributes to the cost of items additional to the school’s budget, such as a new school minibus, residential opportunities, and library and playground equipment.

Not only will Healey Care celebrate Learning Disability Week, but it will also celebrate 25 years of providing support on Wednesday 14 July 2021.

The achievements of the walkers will also be recognised on the 14 July at a combined celebratory garden party.

Service Manager, Marie Bennion said: “I am proud to have been on the journey with Healey Care Ltd for most of their 25 years and feel the people that we support, and their families, are the truly at the heart of everything the company achieves.

“I’d like to say thank you to all our staff teams, past and present, for their amazing contributions and commitment over this last quarter of a century.”

Healey Care Ltd was started by Malachy McElleron with Healey House Whitworth in 1996. The service has now grown to have a number of residential care homes, supported living houses, a day service and a respite service.
