Help Heywood Foodbank by sending a letter to Santa

Date published: 02 December 2021

A Christmas postbox sending special deliveries directly to Santa is set up and ready for business at Heywood’s Studio 82 salon.

Based inside the premises at King Street, local children have until 18 December to come and post their letters to Santa through the festive postbox – whilst raising much needed funds for Heywood Foodbank in time for Christmas.

This is the first time the salon has offered the chance to send letters to Santa and help a local cause since it opened earlier this year in April.

Danica Hampton, who owns the salon along with Darcy Jones, said: “Our own little Cora [daughter of Darcy] has written and posted the first letter, and we can't wait for lots of other little ones to come with theirs!

“After posting, each child can pick up a tube of reindeer feed for a £1 donation or a hot chocolate cone for a £2 donation, or both for £2.50.

“Every single penny raised will be used to purchase supplies for Heywood Foodbank when they will need it most.

“If you would like a personalised letter reply from Santa, please make sure to include your child’s name and address on the letter and a first or second class stamp inside the envelope.

“We also have an amazing Christmas hamper raffle worth £100 for all the adults too! Just £3 per entry.”

The recent postbox appeal gained the attention of the Heywood Sainsburys branch, with the shop kindly donating a ton of food to the cause which it delivered to the salon on Friday 26 November, ready to be distributed to the local food bank.

Danica continued: “With the help of the guys from Sainsburys and Argos at Heywood Distribution Centre we've been able to donate a salon full of food and drink to Heywood Food Bank!

“It makes us so happy to be able to help in our local community.”

Brian Doyle from Heywood Foodbank said: "The donation from Studio 82/Sainsburys was greatly appreciated. We have many thoughtful and kind hearted people in Heywood who are always donating food or money to the foodbank.

"During the winter months the number of people/families using the foodbank increases and especially at Christmas, no one wants to see anyone go without any food."

You can post a letter to Santa, or drop off any items you wish to be donated to Heywood Foodbank, at Studio 82: 82 King Street, Heywood, OL10 1BW.
