Community invited to learn next steps for the £80 million Rochdale and Littleborough flood scheme

Date published: 25 October 2022

Members of the public are invited to learn more about the £80 million Rochdale and Littleborough Flood Scheme at a community drop-in event on Thursday 3 November.

Taking place from 3-7pm, the event will be held at Littleborough Coach House, Lodge Street, Littleborough OL15 9AE.

Members of the Environment Agency project team will be on hand to answer any questions on the flood scheme’s progress and will be joined by representatives from Rochdale Borough Council who will have further details on the Roch Valley Flood Climate and Flood Resilience Project.

The event is free to attend, but an appointment is needed and can be booked online:

When complete, the £80 million Rochdale and Littleborough flood scheme will better protect approximately 1,000 homes and 200 businesses from flooding.

Nick Pearson from the Environment Agency said: “Progress on the Rochdale and Littleborough flood scheme is going well, with work at Riverstone Bridge expected to be completed by summer 2023. The drop-in event will give members of the local community the chance to find out what work will be starting next, the timeframes involved and updates on the progress of planning applications.

“We are pleased to be joined by colleagues from Rochdale Borough Council who will be available to answer questions on their new project, which will support flood resilience in the area.”

In addition to the community drop-in, members of the Flood Scheme project team are available to answer questions directly from 3pm – 6pm every Wednesday at the onsite customer cabin located at Stubley Gardens, Littleborough OL15 8JD.

Even with flood defences in place, you can never entirely remove the risk of flooding. It is important that you prepare for this by signing up for free flood warnings, related to river levels, by phoning Floodline, on 0345 988 1188, or by going online: www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings
