Free travel this Remembrance weekend
Local bus operators will provide free travel for veterans and serving personnel on Remembrance Day this Friday (11 November) and Remembrance Sunday (13 November).
First, Rosso, Go North West and Diamond are all offering free travel on the two days to all current service personnel with forces ID, and to veterans in uniform or with their medals.
On both Remembrance days, where it is safe to do so, buses will pause at 11am to observe two minutes’ silence in memory of those who gave their lives in defending our nation.
A spokesperson for First said: “Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday are important opportunities for all of us to remember family, friends and others who have been lost in war, whether in service or civilians.
“Many of our employees have served in the military or have friends and family members who are former or active members of the Armed Forces, so this time of year is particularly significant across our depots.
“We hope free travel on our services will make it as easy as possible for as many veterans, Armed Forces personnel and cadets to attend Remembrance services and events in the region.”
Buses run by each of Transdev’s local bus operators across the North, including Rosso, will now display poppies ahead of Remembrance Sunday, when the region and the nation will pause to remember the fallen.
CEO of Rosso’s parent firm Transdev, Alex Hornby said: “With financial challenges currently affecting many veterans and their families in the communities we serve, it’s more important than ever that we continue our support for the excellent work done by the Royal British Legion.
“We hope that by prominently showing our support for the Poppy Appeal on our buses, many of our customers will join us in contributing to this excellent cause.
“We want to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom, and to support those living with the impact of conflict today. All our teams at our depots across the North are fully behind this.”
