Evie Law switches on Littleborough Christmas Lights

Date published: 28 November 2022

11 year-old Evie Law switched on the Littleborough Christmas Lights on Saturday (26 November).

Evie goes to Smithy Bridge Primary School and won a competition to design a Peace Poster for Littleborough Lions. She was joined by Rochdale Mayor, Councillor Ali Ahmed, the Mayor's Consort, Sultan Ali, and Santa with his elves.

Santa arrived in style on the back of a decorated American truck, courtesy of Graham Poole Road Transport.

Hundreds of people came to the square to see musical performances from Wardle Junior Blast, Oakenhoof Folk Arts and Littleborough Brass Band as well as a dance performance from Tracey Ray's School Of Dance.

There was also a fun fair and charity fundraising stalls.

The event was organised by Littleborough Events & Associations Forum (LEAF) and is the first full-scale lights switch-on since 2019 as last year's was scaled back due to a weather warning.

Chairman of LEAF, Simon France, said: "It's been three years since our last proper lights switch-on in Littleborough and I think people have missed it.  It was great to see so many families coming together and enjoying themselves.

"The Santa Truck was absolutely amazing and we're really grateful to Graham Poole Transport for letting us use it."

This event, and other events in Littleborough, rely on volunteers to make them happen.  If you'd like to get involved, you can sign-up via the link here: https://linktr.ee/littleboroughevents
