Mindless vandals smash up Littleborough Health Centre

Date published: 20 December 2022

Vandals have “mindlessly” smashed up a medical centre in Littleborough.

Staff at Littleborough Group Practice and Pennine Surgery – which share the Littleborough Health Centre building behind the former police station – discovered the damage at 8am on Sunday (18 December).

Shutters have been damaged, drawers kicked in and medical equipment damaged, with vaccines being strewn around the premises.

The majority of the damage was carried out at Pennine Surgery and CCTV is being reviewed. Despite the damage and disruption, patient care has not been affected, with the practices opening as usual on Monday (19 December).

Mrs Kelly Vines, practice manager of Littleborough Group Practice, said: “We don’t know of any motive, and nothing has been taken. We’re already overwhelmed, and we just don’t deserve this. After two years of Covid and this being our first Christmas since then, you just think ‘why?’

“People must know who it is. Littleborough’s pretty tight-knit and they caused a lot of damage which people must have heard.”

Mrs Vines said: “We [Kelly and Lisa Bowie, practice manager of Pennine Surgery] are really thankful for the support our patients and the public have given us.

“We can’t thank people enough; we’ve been offered help from so many people.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed an investigation into the burglary is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.
