Rochdale to host a London council's call centre

Date published: 13 October 2008

Moving Hammersmith and Fulham Council's call centre to Rochdale will create up to 20 new jobs in the town and save taxpayers in the London borough around £150,000 a year according to Rochdale Council's IT services contractor.

However, the move is being slated in London as the current call centre will suffer 15 job losses if the plans goes through.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council believes they will save £150,000 and the service improved by using Rochdale Council's call centre at Hafley Court, but the opposing Labour group say that local people, with knowledge of the area, will lose their jobs.

Current staff will be able to opt for redeployment or redundancy if the move goes through early next year.

Rochdale Council’s IT services contractor is Agilisys, who work under the Impact Partnership.

Nigel Muirhead, Impact’s Customer and Business Services Director said: "This is great news for the region as well as for tax payers as not only are jobs being created but the economic and technical advantages that this move will create will mean efficiency savings of around £150,000 per year. Residents in Hammersmith will also continue to benefit from a top quality contact centre service."
