The special community celebration event at the Rochdale Pioneers Museum
Twelve local causes across the Rochdale borough have received a share of £24,225 raised by Co-op members and representatives from the groups attended a special community celebration event at the Rochdale Pioneers Museum on 15 November.
This year's beneficiaries are
- Castleton Primary School PTA
- Rochdale Connections Trust
- Friends of Hopwood Park Community Shop
- Friends of Holy Trinity School
- Friends of Hare Hill Park
- Moor End Development Trust
- Friends of Buckstones
- Soul Sisters
- Wild Things Performing Arts
- NEEVA (Norden Environmental & Economic Village Association)
- The Bond Board
- Women’s Supper Club
Two pence of every £1 spent on selected Co-op products and services by Co-op members goes towards community causes as well as national charity partners.
Julie Durrant, member pioneer for Rochdale and Norden, who organised and attended the community celebration, was overwhelmed with the support Rochdale Borough Co-op members have made over the last 12 months.
She said: “The Rochdale borough is the birthplace of cooperation which was formed in 1844 and I'm pleased so many groups are still benefitting from the Co-op today.
“To be able to hold our community celebration at the Pioneers Museum, home of the original Co-op on Toad Lane, was an absolute honour.”
Lindsey Milnes, member pioneer coordinator for Manchester, Oldham and Rochdale, was equally delighted with the amount raised, saying: "Co-operation remains at the heart of Rochdale and is strengthened by the many voluntary groups and charities who do amazing work providing access to food, mental health wellbeing and opportunities for young people."
