Heywood Foodbank in need of tinned goods and mince pies for Christmas

Date published: 25 November 2023

The Heywood Foodbank is in need of baked beans, tinned peas, tinned carrots, jam, cereal and mince pies ahead of Christmas.

The Heywood Foodbank began life many years ago as a response to people knocking on the door at St Joseph’s RC Church on Mary Street and asking for help.

It has grown from this simple request into a vibrant community supporting as many as 200 families, couples and single people each week.

Heywood Foodbank is funded mainly by donations made by the very generous members of the local community, local businesses and schools.

The food is distributed between 10am and 12pm on Mondays and Fridays when bags of groceries and fresh goods purchased by the food bank volunteers are collected by the clients from the Baptist Church in Heywood.

Margaret Green, of the Heywood Foodbank said: "No one has ever been turned away empty-handed – volunteers are on hand to support with food and also with signposting."

The food bank welcomes donations of general groceries in addition to financial support.

Donations can be made at: Heywood Baptist Church (use Chapel Street entrance), Rochdale Road, Heywood, OL10 1LE.

Alternatively, please contact the Heywood Foodbank on 07396 071193 or via email, info@heywoodfoodbank.co.uk.
