No Northern trains on 8 December due to ASLEF strike

Date published: 29 November 2023

There will be no Northern trains on Friday 8 December due to strike action.

Northern services will not operate due to action short of strike called by the train drivers’ union ASLEF, which has announced strikes across national rail operators between 1 and 9 December.

Local rail services, operated by Northern, will only be affected on the aforementioned date, and there will be no rail replacement buses for that day.

Northern has advised passengers to expect disruption on the other dates due to strikes elsewhere, including across CrossCountry, TransPennine Express, Avanti West Coast, plus a number of London-centric operators.

Drivers will also refuse to work overtime between Friday 1 and Saturday 9 December.

Over the last 18 months, ASLEF has called 14 one-day strikes over a pay dispute.

Tickets for travel between Saturday 2 December and Friday 8 December (inclusive) can instead be used on any day between Friday 1 December and Tuesday 12 December (inclusive) - tickets must have been purchased before 17 November.
