Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To construct a roadway drainage system.

Expected start and finish: Monday 18 September 2023 – Friday 22 December 2023.
Restriction and location: Temporary 10mph speed limit on Over Town Lane for its entire length.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To demolish a balcony safely.

Expected start and finish: Monday 30 October 2023 – Friday 12 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Lower Falinge, from its junction with Eliza Brierley Drive for a distance of 51 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair the gas mains.

Expected start and finish: Friday 24 November 2023 - Thursday 14 December 2023 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the footpath at Beightons Walk from its junction with Shawclough Way for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for pedestrians is Hillstone Avenue, Overdell Drive and Shawclough Way.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair traffic calming measures in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 4 December 2023 – Tuesday 12 December 2023.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Edmund Street and Chaseley Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new waste water manhole cover in the road.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am – 3.30pm on Wednesday 3 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Clifford Street, from a point 23 metres south of its junction with Cecil Street for the rest of its length.
Alternative route: There are no alternative routes available for vehicles.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 8 January 2024 – Monday 5 February 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Bridgefold Road, for its entire length.
  • Residential access will be maintained where possible.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To inspect a waste water manhole chamber in the road.

Expected start and finish: 3am – 5am, Monday 26 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Drake Street, from a point 5 metres south of its junction with South Parade for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for buses will be South Parade, Newgate, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Street, Milnrow Road and Drake Street.
  • These works will not interfere with tram services.

Reason: To repair a water service in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 26 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Royle Road, from a point 10 metres south of its junction with Silk Street to a point 50 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Royle Barn Road, Manchester Road and Silk Street.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To allow the safe delivery of works required for a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: Monday 22 August 2022 – Friday 26 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Rothay Drive, from its junction with Bonscale Crescent for its entire length.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Middleton
Reason: To provide space for coach parking for those attending the pantomime event at the Middleton Arena.

Expected start and finish: 8am – 5pm each day between the following dates:

  • Monday 11 December 2023 – Friday 15 December 2023.
  • Monday 18 December 2023 – Thursday 21 December 2023.

Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along the south westerly side of L/Cpl Joel Halliwell VC Way. This will be from a point 54 metres south east of a point opposite the south easterly kerb line of Old Hall Street, for a distance of 52 metres.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To facilitate highway improvements.

Expected start and finish: Friday 16 June 2023 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary 20mph speed limit on Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Moss Hall Road to the Heywood Distribution Park entrance.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out urgent water works.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 22 November 2023 – Wednesday 13 December 2023 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Birtle Road from a point 270 metres north of its junction with Church Road for a distance of 35 metres in a northerly direction.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Heywood
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures in the road.

Expected start and finish: 9am – 5pm each day, Monday 4 December 2023 – Friday 15 December 2023 as required.
Restriction and location:
Temporary closure and prohibition of waiting at any time (between the times and dates listed) along the following roads:

  • Heywood Hall Road, from its junction with Queens Park Road to its junction with Bamford Road.
  • Starkey Street, from its junction with Queens Park Road to its junction with Bamford Road.
  • Queen Street, from its junction with Langton Street to its junction with Longford Street.
  • Langton Street, for its entire length.

Alternative route: Alternative routes will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To replace a frame and cover in the road.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am – 3pm on Wednesday 3 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Winchester Avenue, from its junction with Newbury Grove for a distance of 30 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Winchester Avenue, Shaftesbury Drive, Salisbury Avenue and Newbury Grove.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Heywood
Reason: To lay a new water main and new connections.

Expected start and finish:  Monday 8 January 2024 – Friday 19 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Schofield Street, from its junction with Mount Street for a distance of 40 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Schofield Street, King Street and Mount Street.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council


Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: 8am – 5pm each day on the following dates:

  • Saturday 16 December 2023.
  • Sunday 17 December 2023.

Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Stockton Street, from a point 45 metres north of its junction with Church Street to its end in a northerly direction.
  • Access will be provided if safe to do so.

Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To hold the Wardle Village Christmas Eve Carol Concert.

Expected start and finish: 5.30pm – 8.30pm, Sunday 24 December 2023.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Ramsden Road, from its junction with Crossfield Road to its junction with Wardle Fold.
