60 children enjoy activities during Deeplish Community Centre's winter playscheme

Date published: 03 January 2024

Over 60 children and 15 volunteers participated in a variety of activities during the week-long Deeplish Community Centre winter playscheme in December.

During the festive period, children enjoyed playing competitive sports including indoor golf, football, and dodgeball in addition to days out at Rochdale’s Flipout trampoline park and the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.

In addition to this, children explored their creativity by undertaking a baking masterclass, where they created and decorated their own cookies.

Exploring climate change through painting highlighted the importance of looking after the planet. Children were proactively litter-picking and recycling after this session. To further challenge their curiosity and critical thinking, children crafted origami and marvellous figurines.

Promoting healthy eating by serving fresh fruit and vegetables as well as nutritious and tasty meals daily, ensured children were boosted and energised. The local community police officers educated young children about safety, including what to do in emergency situations.

The success of the winter playscheme was celebrated by handing out certificates and winter warm packs to young children to ensure they were warm and cosy this winter.

Sohail Ahmad, operations manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said the success of the programme was down to all the funders, supporters and volunteers who made this possible and expressed his gratitude.
