Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 8 January 2024 – Monday 5 February 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Bridgefold Road, for its entire length.
  • Residential access will be maintained where possible.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a sewer under the road.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 18 January 2024 – Thursday 8 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Mere Lane from its junction with Ellesmere Street for a distance of 50 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic is Boundary Street, Tweedale Street and Milkstone Place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To inspect a waste water manhole chamber in the road.

Expected start and finish: 3am – 5am, Monday 26 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Drake Street, from a point 5 metres south of its junction with South Parade for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for buses will be South Parade, Newgate, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Street, Milnrow Road and Drake Street.
  • These works will not interfere with tram services.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a water service in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 26 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Royle Road, from a point 10 metres south of its junction with Silk Street to a point 50 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Royle Barn Road, Manchester Road and Silk Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new cycle way at the junction of Manchester Road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 4 March 2024 – Tuesday 5 March 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • While this work is in place, the one-way restrictions along Partington Street will be suspended. Vehicles will be allowed to travel in both directions along the entire length of Partington Street except for the part that will be closed, as described below.
  • Temporary closure of part of Partington Street. This will be from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.
  • Part of Nixon Street will be closed, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 40 metres in a westerly direction. There will be no waiting allowed along this stretch.
  • Part of Royal Barn Road will be closed, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction. There will be no waiting allowed along this stretch.
  • Residential access will be maintained.

Reason: To install a new sewer manhole cover supply in the road.

Expected start and finish: 7pm – 10pm, Tuesday 5 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of waiting in a section of Gordon Street. This will be from its junction with Oldham Road for a distance of 10 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Not applicable.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out urgent water works.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 17 January 2024 – Wednesday 7 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Maple Close, from a point 45 metres north of its junction with Birchwood Road for a distance of 35 metres in a northerly direction.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 14 February 2024 – Wednesday 27 March 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Hawkshead Drive, from a point 23 metres north of its junction with Fairfield Road for a distance of 190 metres in a north easterly direction.
  • Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.

Alternative route: The alternative route will be Hawkshead Drive and Fairfield Road.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To facilitate highway improvements.

Expected start and finish: Friday 16 June 2023 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary 20mph speed limit on Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Moss Hall Road to the Heywood Distribution Park entrance.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out electrical works.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 7 February 2024 – Monday 12 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the unnamed footpath from Lewis Drive to Bury Old Road, for its entire length.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To lay a new water main and connections.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 17 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Walton Street, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 30 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Manchester Road, Newhouse Road and Walton Street.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out defective reinstatement work outside 10 Timbercliffe.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 30 January 2024 – Wednesday 31 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Timbercliffe, from 6 Timbercliffe for a distance of 20 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: Alternative diversion routes will be signed on street.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Pennines
Reason: To enable tree cutting and clear branches from overhead fibre optic cable lines.

Expected start and finish: 8am – 4pm each day from Tuesday 30 January 2024 – Thursday 1 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Ashfield Lane, from its junction with Stott Street to its junction with Cartmel Avenue.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be Cartmel Avenue, Egremont Road, Beechfield Road, Harbour Lane and Ashfield Lane.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out tests to the level crossing.

Expected start and finish: 12.10am – 5.30am, Sunday 11 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Smithy Bridge Road. This will be from a point 15 metres north west of the level crossing for a distance of 40 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road, Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road, Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road and Smithy Bridge Road.
