Hydrogen Safe delivers specialist training for Hopwood Hall College

Date published: 26 February 2024

Hydrogen Safe, the Manchester-based specialist training organisation educating people to work safely with hydrogen, has delivered specialist training to teaching staff at Hopwood Hall College and University Centre.

Delivering one of the UK’s first qualifications dedicated to hydrogen safety, all delegates that complete the training will receive the Level 1: Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices, equipping them with the knowledge they need to work safely with hydrogen.

Hopwood Hall is the first education provider in the UK to deliver the training to its employees, while also providing access to the qualifications through the ‘Practitioner in Pipelines for Hydrogen and Utilities’ apprenticeship, offered in partnership with IACS Training and Education, the training subsidiary of IACS Ltd.

CEO and Founder of Hydrogen Safe, Andy Lord, comments: “The relationship with Hopwood Hall College and University Centre started when we were appointed to deliver the Level 1: Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices qualification to apprentices.

“Having seen how the training is delivered, we were approached by Hopwood Hall to upskill the team at the college.

“We hope that this will be the start of a much bigger programme of activity. As the first to offer this training to employees, we hope other education providers will take the lead from Hopwood Hall and recognise the benefits in equipping their staff with knowledge and skills they may need for the future.”

Centre director of the Advanced Technology and Construction Centre at Hopwood Hall College and University Centre, Paul Pritchard, said: “Having experienced first-hand how the training was delivered, we saw the benefits in giving our own team the chance to better understand hydrogen and how it works.

“As the first college in the UK to access this pioneering training, it is another example of how we are leading the way when it comes to green energy and progressive professional development.”

In addition to the Level 1: Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices, Hydrogen Safe also delivers the Hydrogen Fundamentals full-day and half-day course. The training offered is completely flexible, delivered face-to-face and virtually-in-person, which means that delegates can access the training they need at a time and location to suit them.

Members of Hydrogen UK, the Hydrogen Energy Association and the Hydrogen Skills Alliance, Hydrogen Safe works with businesses, education providers and individuals to deliver courses that suit the needs of an organisation and its prospective delegates.
