Local artist Brooke Ellis extends her incredible talent and generosity to help Springhill Hospice

Date published: 25 February 2024

Rochdale-born artist Brooke Ellis has kindly decided to sell her hand-drawn colouring books, in order to help raise vital funds for Springhill Hospice. Brooke has previously raised money from the book sales for Teenage Cancer Trust, but has now decided to share that generosity with Springhill, as she is currently receiving community care from the hospice.

Brooke has a history with Springhill, having volunteered in the kitchen at 15 years old during her time on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. She commented to her mum at the time that all the staff and volunteers were “so kind to everyone” and that she really enjoyed her volunteering role there. Brooke loved her time at Springhill so much, she also volunteered for a further two years whilst studying A levels at Rochdale Sixth Form, and achieved a two years volunteer service badge. Always artistic, Brooke has been an avid drawer and painter since her early childhood, so it made perfect sense for her to create something art-related to selflessly help others.

Brooke came under the care of the hospice in September last year; she was previously being treated by The Christie, but as her needs turned palliative, she was referred over to Springhill to receive help with symptom management at home. Brooke had to briefly attend the hospice itself after Christmas and was pleasantly surprised that some of the Inpatient Unit staff remembered her from her volunteering days.

Brooke’s mum Lisa said, “Brooke really wants to give something back after all the amazing support she has received up to now from Springhill. We really appreciate everything the hospice has done for us and we hope the sales of the colouring book raise as much money as possible.”

Springhill extends a heartfelt thank you to Brooke and Lisa for their amazing generosity with this project. If you would like to purchase one of the limited-edition colouring books, you can do so at the Springhill Hospice reception desk.
