Fun and Fayre at Leonard Cheshire Disability Home
Date published: 23 August 2009
The Family Fun Day and Summer Fayre at the Leonard Cheshire Disability Honresfeld Home in Littleborough provided an afternoon out for families and people of all ages.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, and musical entertainment was provided by the Wardle Anderson Brass Band. Stalls included: raffle, tombola, chocolate tombola, face-painting, bouncy castle, food, home made cards, books, home made soaps, plants, hook a duck, ice cream van and more.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the home; last year's event raised £4000 which paid for a canopy to be erected over the patio - many residents are on medication which makes them more vulnerable to sun burn, the canopy filters out the suns rays meaning they can still sit outside and enjoy good weather. This year the funds are to go towards the cost of a new minibus, the existing one is past its best and costing a lot to maintain. However, there will be a lot more fund raising to do to reach the cost as a new minibus will be around £30,000 - but as manager of the home, Laura Keita said: "Every little helps."
Mayor Keith Swift was very impressed by the magnificent building, donated to the Leonard Cheshire charity by the Borough Rubber Company, he said: “The house is wonderful with beautiful feature fireplaces, plasterwork and mosaic floors.
“Just as impressive are the facilities and the dedication of the staff and volunteers.
It is very heartening also to see the support the people of Littleborough and Rochdale give.”
The next fund raiser is the Littleborough Water Walk which takes place on Sunday 13 September.
