Brad Journeaux BSc(Hons), MA in his graduation gown
Brad Journeaux has graduated with a Masters Degree in Economy and Space - he received his award at a ceremony that took place in the magnificent Whitworth Hall at the University of Manchester on Wednesday 13 December; this follows his 2.1 BSc (Hons) award in Geography in 2005.
For his Masters Dissertation 23-year-old Brad, who now lives in Manchester City Centre, focused on the disputed former Turner Brothers Asbestos site close to his mother Janine's home in Shawclough. He interviewed a number of key people in order to gain an insight into the controversial proposals for the site and the objectors well co-ordinated resistance to those plans, he said: quot;I am very grateful to Jason Addy of Save Spodden Valley, Ken Smith Head of Environment at Rochdale Council, MP Paul Rowen and Cabinet Member for Environment amp; Sustainability, Councillor Wera Hobhouse who all gave me their time, listened patiently to my questions and answered frankly."
Brad did request an interview with a representative of MMC Estates in order to try and ensure his dissertation was fair and balanced. MMC refused the invitation; however, they did email a response to Brad's questions.
Brad continues his studies having already embarked on a three year Doctorate; his PhD, #39;The UK and the global carbon credit regime', will examine a live global environmental policy experiment as it unfolds and as seen from the perspective of one important nation state. The research will be based theoretically on environmental regime theory and international political economy, and empirically upon close analysis of national and global policy documents and interviews with environmental policy makers in the United Nations, the UK Environment Agency and elsewhere.
Brad is also a director of Rochdale Online.
