Rochdale and Heywood got their first new newspaper in many years when the Rochdale & Heywood Independent came out today (Wednesday 27 Janaury).
People will be able to pick up the paper free of charge at local supermarkets, the two Rochdale shopping malls and many other outlets throughout the district.
The Rochdale and Heywood the Independent will cover news from Littleborough, Milnrow, Whitworth, Norden, Bamford and Castleton.
“Our aim is to be a community newspaper,” says editor Richard Catlow “and we want to work closely with local people and societies.”
He adds: “There will be a particular emphasis on positive news. The doom and gloom can be overdone, we want to show people the many good things that are happening in our area.”
