Family fun day in the name of charity

Date published: 15 May 2011

Families from Rochdale and beyond attended a family fun day today (Sun 15 May) to raise money for charity.

The event, held at the Soccer Village on Wildhouse Lane, was organised in conjunction with the Dr Joe Jaffe Hospital Support Charity to raise much-needed cash for The Christie Hospital in Manchester.

The main attraction was a reverse bungee which saw dare devils take to the sky for the good cause.

Funfair rides and a petting zoo also proved popular with the children.

The Soccer Village has hosted the reverse bungee for some years but this year they decided to go that extra mile to make it a family fun day.

Soccer Village director Brett Beresford, said: “Every year the Dr Joe Jaffe Hospital hold the bungee here and get people to come down to raise money for The Christie, they just use the place, but this year we wanted to make it more family orientated so we got the fairground rides, the children’s characters and the petting farm.

“There are two purposes really, to pull people into the day which is good for business and to raise money for charity.”

Mr Beresford said he fully “embraced” the charity and hopes to raise as much money as possible.

He concluded: “I think the day has gone really well, the weather may not have helped but people are enjoying themselves.”
